Talasari beach is a virgin beach lies on the east coast of India. This beach is rarely visited by any visitors. It is situated in Baleswar district of Odisha. The beach is at a distance of 36 km from Jaleshwar railway station and 7 km from Digha beach of West Bengal. Talasari beach is near the estuary of Subarnarekha river.
I started my journey to Talasari beach from IIT Kharagpur. I was at IIT Kharagpur to attend a GIAN course from 16 May - 27 May 2016. I left for Talasari beach on saturday (21 may) when there was no lectures. I took a bus from the Kharagpur bus station (near the railway station) at 7 O cloack in the morning to Digha. The distance of Digha from Kharagpur is about 80 km and it took approximately 2 hours to reach Digha. Train is the better option to travel to Digha from Kharagpur/bhubaneswar (Puri Digha Super Fast Express). Puri Digha Express departs at 1:00 AM from Bhubaneswar and 6:20 AM from Kharagpur and reaches Digha railway station at 9:25 AM. After reaching Digha, I booked an autorickshaw (at INR 150) and traveled from Digha beach to Talasari beach. The beach is at a distance of 7 km from Digha beach.
Talasari beach is not connected by road. The beach is separated from the main land by a small river. It can only be reached by a boat from the road side. There is a ferry ghat where boat is available for Talasari beach. There are lots of snack center, food stalls on the ferry ghat. I took a boat (INR 50 per person) from the ghat. It was a nice experience while crossing the river. There is no food and drinking water available at Talasari beach after crossing the river. It is good to carry food items and sufficient water. I crossed the river around 11 AM. The boat dropped us at the beach on the river side. The beach spreads over a large area where the sea (Bay of Bengal) on one side and the river on the other side.
There was very few travelers at the beach and they are roaming near the boat dropping point. The beach spread over a distance of 5 km to the estuary of Subarnarekha river. I had a plan to trek through the beach to the estuary. I started walking towards the estuary to explore the beach. It was summer season and the climate was very hot. It is good to travel the beach in winter if you are planing for a long trekking along the beach.
There was no one on the long beach except few fisher men. The people of Talasari village mostly depends on fishing activities. I saw few fisher men were catching fish. Some of them are entering the sea through boat to catch fish. There were many abandoned boat at many places on the way. Lots of dead shells were found at the beach which is very common in every beach. A dead star fish was lying at the shore and I captured a photo of it. Then I traveled further towards the estuary.
Talasari beach is also very famous for red crabs. Different species of crabs are found at the Talasari beach. I spent lots of time to watch and capture photographs of these crabs. Some of the area are protected area and are not accessible to general public. The beach is very wide. Many uprooted trees and woods are found near the shore. A small forest is running parallel to the shore through out the beach.
After traveling approximately 1.5 km, I found it is difficult to travel further in this hot climate. Then I decided to come back. I returned to the boat dropping point and saw that the water of the river is flowing below the knee due to low tide. Hence, it can be crossed by foot. The river bed forms very interesting sand patterns after receding. The beach was looking red from a distance due to red crabs. The red crabs started disappearing while approaching towards them. There were few fisher men catching fish in the river. Then I came to the ferry ghat and it was 3:30 PM when I left Talasari beach.
It is very difficult to find any autorickshaw or taxi to return to Digha. Finally, I found an autorickshaw and returned to Digha. I spend approximately 30 minutes at Digha beach. The beach is highly crowded and people are enjoying the sunset. Then I went to the Digha railway station and catch the Digha Puri Super Fast Express at 5: 15 PM. The train arrived Kharagpur railway station at 8: 30 PM and I took a taxi to IIT Kharagpur.
It was a wonderful experience to walk along the Talasari beach. It would have better to travel in winter. I wish to visit the beach again in winter so that I can travel upto the estuary and fully explore the beach.
